My dear friend:

How excited I am for you! You are finally beginning to understand just how wonderful you are! During the last few years, I have watched you as you were hurt over and over again by people who claimed to be your friends. I tried to help you see that they were not good for you, but there were so many voices telling you that you weren’t smart enough or pretty enough or all the other things you were told, all of which were lies. I don’t know why some people have to put others down to feel powerful.

Now, you are beginning to see yourself as you truly are. I hear the excitement in your voice as you come to realize that you are a true friend. I love to talk to you about the new friends you are making after leaving behind those who were “poison” to you. You are free! I see how you stand taller and your smile is brighter. I love that your days are now more positive.

You have always been wonderful! You are special just the way you are! I am so grateful that you are beginning to see it too. Keep empowering yourself by looking at yourself as you truly are. Don’t ever listen to the negative voices from the world. Listen to the inner voices that tell you how fabulous you are. I know you can do it.

Love,
Me

When was the last time you felt absolutely undefeatable? No matter how long it has been, think back on that time. Were you a child and believed that you could save the world? Were you in college and knew that you would discover the cure for some dreaded disease? Or perhaps, you would be the mastermind behind peace in the world.

Whatever was your dream, why did you give it up? Were there people who told you that you couldn’t accomplish your dream? Was it the negative voice in your brain that told you? Or, did you just decide you were not good enough, worthy, smart enough…?

It doesn’t matter what the reason, I am here to tell you that you can accomplish your dream. MPowerGen.com was begun to help mothers and families realize that we can achieve our dreams. So, I have two assignments for you today, an experiment for you to try.

• First, print out Karin’s blog from last Monday. Fill in the blanks. I felt empowered just by completing the form. It is not always easy, but it will bring fantastic benefits to look at just how amazing you are. Read your completed form at least daily.
• Second, look in the mirror and tell yourself: “I am enough, I am worthy, I am amazing!” During the day, repeat this exercise without using the mirror, just say the words and mean them. (Even if you don’t mean it at first, keep trying and one day, you will discover that you do mean it.)

It will take you 1-2 minutes to review your form and to say the words each day. You can say “I am enough” while you brush your hair. “I am worthy” could be spoken while you wash dishes or laundry. Say, “I am amazing” while you drive your car or walk through your house. You figure out when is best for you.

One morning last week, I was doing a quick inventory of the difficult times in my life in the past few years. Unexpectedly, the thought came out, “I am amazing.” When the thought came, I knew it was linked to this process. I was surprised, but realized that I do hard things and I do good things, even when the world around me is bitter, cold and nasty.

Try it for 30 days. Be consistent. If you skip a day, no beating yourself up and giving up are allowed. Choose to be empowered. Choose to believe in yourself. You are enough! You are worthy! You are amazing! Believe it!

Years ago, when my husband and I were first married, I tried to cut his hair. I failed miserably. I don’t cut straight and I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t want to cut his hair because I was sure I would make a mess of it and I did. The barber made fun of me when we went to get his haircut fixed by a professional.

But, lately, I have decided to face my fears and try things again that I failed in the past. And…
I was successful with the haircut. One area was just a little short, but was in a place which was unnoticeable. Nobody laughed or made fun of the job I had done. My husband was pleased.

My son told me that he had never seen me cut hair before. I told him that I hadn’t cut hair for year. I empowered myself by trying something again. How can you empower yourself by trying something again? Try it! You just may succeed.

Maybe it’s an incorrect assumption that our fashion often determines, at least in some degree, our personalities…or maybe, more correctly, our personalities are drawn to particular designs, trends, or colors to determine our fashion. Whatever the case, the way we look, whether we like it or not, sends messages to others around us (& quite possibly sometimes to our own psyche) about who we are or who we want to be.
When I was a teen, I used to quote a poem back & forth with my mom about growing older & breaking fashion rules. We used to laugh together about not matching as we age, and we still share a snicker about it from time to time.
While I do try to dress more conservatively, I have a few “fun” fashion statements…like red, peep-toe pumps I got from my sister-in-law, and my strappy black spike heels that I bought with my sister that I often wear with a sleek black satin skirt (that has a bit of a train). Last week, I attended an event in an Indian-flavored rust top with gold outlines & sequins. I borrowed it from my sister…& had fun wearing it!!!! I totally enjoy having a little fun with “different” fashions I have gathered from the amazing women in my life and the support my friends give me when I am a little daring!
So…if you’re wondering if you can “pull it off” to wear something a little out of your ordinary fashion sense…go for it!!! Who knows, you might just feel empowered!!!
