It’s Up to Me!
Lately, this crazy thing’s been happening to me…and to basically everyone I know: we’ve been experiencing really, really difficult things. In addition to what’s on my plate right now, one of my dearest friends is getting over a really bad breakup. Another is changing careers. Another is coping with immense physical pain, with few medical treatment options remaining. I tell you, life is tough right now! And when I look at what these men and women are experiencing, I am awed by their strength and fortitude. Personally, I get to see the progress I make, the strength I gain, as I continue on in the face of transition and tragedy every day.
You see, I have this thought: I can look at a given situation with fear, sadness, and anger, or I can look at it with hope and joy. It’s up to me. I get to pick. (I love it when I’m in charge!) I remind myself of this thought just about every day. It really, really helps me respond to situations in a positive way, because I acknowledge that I may not be in control of the event or person that triggered an initially-negative response, but I am in control of my attitude. Like I said, I LOVE being in charge
Then, when I act on my choice to be proactive, great things happen. I’m not saying the situation resolves. It may not even change at all. But I am happier.
And that makes all the difference in the world.
