Importance

Sometimes, we can clearly define what is important to us. The list can vary from how we feel about ketchup on French fries to how we want to be treated when we die. Somehow, we rate what we find to be important by degrees–”you are the most important person in my life”…”I take time daily to feed my spirit because that is more important to me than catching up on my fav tv shows”…”the way the frosting tastes on the cake is less important to me than the way the cake looks”…see?
So–what on earth (&, might I add, “in heaven”) is important to you?
If I were to come up with a list–& this is in no order & is inconclusive, FYI–I might share with you the following: my husband, my children, my faith in & relationship with God, learning how to trust without fear, feeling closely connected, teaching, writing, painting, playing (+writing or singing) music, dancing, my home being orderly, personal freedom, yummy food, my children’s happiness & success, my dear extended family, my friends, chocolate, ice cream, being a part of something that helps others–and, of course, you, my dear blog readers–you are important to me.
I could go on, but I will pause there to say that sometimes we need to STOP & think about what is important to us.
While we are both taking a few moments to ponder, here are a few questions: Are the things that are most important to you going to bring you lasting happiness? What changes might you need to make in order to match what is important to you to your short-term & long-term goals? Are you spending your time, money, efforts & energy on what is most important?
I don’t know about you, but I have some work to do…and–before we both allow the feelings of overwhelm to flood into our lives–let me say that I think the changes I need to make will be easier than they may seem at first. Lately, I have noticed that when I make an effort to show the people in my life that they are most important, I have found that they are kinder, more obedient, more loving & more patient. I am already reaping great blessings from my small efforts–and I feel progress. Feeling progress is something that is important to me. :)
What’s important to you?
