The Power of Peace
This week has been a long week. Lots of things going on–great events and not so great–have kept me very busy. I am so amazed at the peace that can accompany busy, busy weeks when I make time and allow my heart to feel it.
I looked up the word peace on dictionary.com and was surprised that “a state of tranquility or serenity” and “a state or condition conducive to, proceeding from, or characterized by tranquility” were the seventh and eighth listed definitions. As I think about peace, I think of the words of Jesus Christ when he said, “Peace, be still.”
I think that each of us needs some time each day to “be still.” A few years ago, I was a hyperbaric oxygen therapy patient at a local hospital. Not only did this experience heal my infection, it healed my heart. Being so very ill for so long had taken its toll on me. My body was tired. So, each day that I had a treatment (5 days each week for several months), I had my “Mama Quiet Time” (a phrase invented by the Safety Director at the clinic). I learned how important it is to have that daily time to meditate, to pray, to ponder, to relax, to listen to my voice and not the voice of the world.
Even now, though I am much healthier, I still need my “Mama Quiet Time” each day. Guess what? Dads need it, too, and children, as well. Quiet time allows us to have peace in our lives. Peace, calm, and tranquility come as we learn to listen and follow our own inner voice. When we take time to listen to our inner wisdom, we feel healthier and much more peaceful.
How can you arrange your schedule to have daily quiet time or help others in your family spend quiet time each day?
